Today’s route is 68 miles from Boone to Marshalltown with pass-thru towns of Gilbert, Nevada (Meeting Town), Colo, and State Center.

The first town, Breakfast Town, we come to is Gilbert (MP 18), population 1,200. Undetermined who the vendors may be. Note that the route goes through the vendor area. Even if you are feeling like a fly-by, these people have gone all out to welcome us and the least we should do is go through their town. Stop. Take a photo. Smile. Pedal on.

In 18 more miles is Nevada (MP 36), the Meeting Town. Say it with me – Nuh-Vay-Da. Lots of food/vendor options

Only seven miles past Meeting Town is Colo (MP 43), population 845. This is known, to the people of Colo at least, as the Crossroads of the Nation as Lincoln Highway and Jefferson Highway intersect here. The town was named for Colo the dog who was crushed by a train.

Near here is Hickory Grove Park which is where many of the scenes in the movie Twister were filmed.

Historic Reed/Niland Corner found on the intersection of U.S Route 30 and U.S Route 65.

Not sure if our route will take us to the historic corner were Lincoln and Jefferson Highways cross.

Just eight miles after leaving Colo is State Center, population 1400. I have no idea what is here. Maybe lots of garden hoses.

Its is 16 miles from State Center to the end in Marshalltown, a city (pop. 28,000).

For Brancel we will have free ice cream and root beer around 3:00 p.m.
